ContextAnalysis was founded by Dr. Kelly ErnstFriedman, a sociocultural anthropologist and freelance writer. Kelly recently completed her dissertation, "'A Revolution We Create Daily': Freegan Alternatives to
Capitalist Consumption in New York City," with the New York City
freegans, critical consumption activists dedicated to limiting their
impact on the environment, consumption of resources, and participation
in capitalism. While attending graduate school at American University in Washington, D.C., Kelly taught classes in introductory anthropology; theory; sex, gender and culture; poverty and culture; and postmodernism. She also worked as Service-Learning Coordinator at AU's Community Service Center, placing students in local non-profits and
community-based organizations which complimented their course work. Kelly's research focus on contemporary urban activism, combined with her professional dedication to interdisciplinary projects and philosophy utilizing community-based learning and research, informs her work at ContextAnalysis. The
success of most development projects relies on
collaborative relationships with community partners. The methodologies and perspectives of anthropology are tools for collaborative social change and
ContextAnalysis utilizes those tools to enhance non-profits' abilities to outreach, assess needs and serve local communities.
